Calvert, Texas 

For years I passed through this little town without a glance except at the wonderful old buildings on the main street. I did several paintings of those.  Then, one trip, I decided to see what else was there and found many, many wonderful old houses on block after block of the town east of the highway.  Some of the houses have been restored and some have not.  When I took the photo for this painting, I think this house was somewhere in between being ignored and being kept up.  To me it was at a perfect stage for a painting.  I have since seen it again, and in a harsh afternoon light, and was terribly disappointed.
